About Mikola

I have always had a love of dance. I began taking ballet lessons at age three and continued with ballet until my early twenties. I have also enjoyed many other dance styles including jazz, ballroom and afro jazz.

In 1995 I discovered my true dancing passion - Belly Dance! I began belly dance classes without really knowing much about it and I was quickly hooked and intrigued to learn and discover more about this fascinating and truly feminine dance form.

Life and my other career took me to Sydney, where I continued to learn belly dance with several different teachers. After having children, I had a break from belly dancing and a couple of years later I returned with my family to Maitland.

My teaching journey began in 2007 and I have found teaching belly dance to be a wonderful and rewarding experience. I am constantly amazed and very proud of my students strength and personal achievements through their dance. It is a true privelage to be able to bring belly dance into these womens lives!

In early 2008 I was awarded certification to teach Shemiran Ibrahim's "Belly Dancing from the Heart" method to beginner and continuing beginner Middle Eastern Dance students. For more information on this method go to the first website on my links page.

The job of an educator is to teach students to see the vitality in themselves - Joseph Campbell

To improve and further my own dancing and teaching skills, I regularly attend classes and workshops. I believe that I can only be of service to my students through my own continued learning.
