About the Classes
BEGINNERS & BEYOND - This is a mixed class for women and high school aged girls who have never danced before as well as for those students who have been coming for several terms. The focus is on the basic movements of belly dance, simple improvisation, as well as some basic choreography. Veil work is usually introduced toward the end of term. Continuing students are given more challenging variations of the basic moves. It is suitable for high school age upwards. All new beginners need to commit for a full term. This helps the learning process for everyone in the class and will help to give you a solid foundation in belly dance. After the first term you may pay casually if that suits you better.

INTERMEDIATE - A class for those who have danced for about a year in the Beginners & Beyond class and are comfortable with the basic movements of belly dance. The focus is on good technique and layering of movements, improvisation, more difficult choreographies and prop work. Please bring veil and zills to class.

JUNIOR BELLY DANCE - A dance class for girls aged 7+ up to high school students to learn the basics of belly dance. The focus is on having fun while exploring belly dance and learning basic technique. Creative improvisation, choreography, veils and zills will be used.

JUNIOR BELLY DANCE LEVEL TWO - is for those girls who are comfortable with the basic moves of belly dance and are ready for more challenges in their dancing.

What to wear?
Wear comfortable clothing that is good for exercise. A T-shirt or crop top with a loose skirt, comfortable pants or leggings is ideal. (A bare belly is entirely optional!) Bare feet are ideal and soft dance shoes or jiffies are also good - especially in the winter. I have shimmy belts which you may tie around your hips for class. Also bring along a bottle of water.

Performances
Throughout the year there are various performance opportunities where I welcome anyone to have a go. It is not about perfect dancing but about having fun and personal growth through challenges. Hunter Shimmy Sisters also have an annual concert that all dancers may participate in if they wish.
